One day - BIU In-person Moderator training on Adolescent Anemia

Event Objectives:

  • 1. To orient and train the moderators and supporting district officials of the selected blocks on BIU’s approach towards the pilot study on adolescent Anemia.
  • 2. Thoroughly train the moderators on research methodology and techniques
  • 3. Discuss the in-depth interview questionnaire for the pilot study.

Event Preparation:

  • - All Relevant stakeholders were invited from Mahasamund, Kondagaon and Surajpur.
  • - Mr. Nishant Gantayat, Project lead, Final Mile consulting was called as the trainer for the session
  • - The in-depth interview questionnaire was developed for review.
  • - IEC material including banners, standee, Agenda, activity material was procured for all trainees.
  • - Other logistic arrangements were made.
  • - A preliminary online meeting was also held on 19th Feb 2024 with the same stakeholders to discuss the pilot study.

Event Participation: A total of 22 people were present during the training.

The participants included DMCs, district and block officials from Kondagaon, Surajpur and Mahasamund, CG Alliance for Behaviour Change members, UNICEF members, members from Agricons foundation and members from BIU host NIT Raipur.

Event Execution:

  • - The training started with introduction of all participants and expectation mapping of the participants for the day, which revealed that the participants are keen to learn and work on the thematic.
  • - BIU Convenor Dr. Govardhan Bhatt, UNICEF SBC consultant Mr. Chandan Rai and the trainer Mr. Nishant Gantayat addressed all the participants and made them understand why all stakeholders are important to execute the pilot study in a holistic manner, and what different organizations and people can bring to the table.
  • - Then, Mr. Gantayat went on to describe the purpose, aim & objectives of the pilot study and the research technique that will be used for the study. He thoroughly described how will the pilot study be executed; how qualitative data will be collected using individual in-depth interviews and FGDs and why these methods will be used. Mr. gantayat explained the Final Mile approach towards mapping emotions behind any action along with the mental models and the decision-making aspects in that framework and the impact of social environment around it.
  • - A large part of the training was dedicated to making the participants understand the way to capture good stories rather than opinions. This was done through explanations, discussions, and activities. What is the different between a good and a bad story and how the 5W and 1H approach helps in collecting good stories.
  • - The discussions pivoted to what is an in-depth interview and how to conduct a good individual in-depth interview, how to set the tone and environment right to collect accurate data.
  • - The ethical considerations such as consent of the participant were discussed.
